Western elements of the Italian flora: regional distribution

This work deals with the distribution of various western floristic units in Italian regions. In addition, taking into account the ancient territorial linkages and the results of studies of phylogeography listed in the bibliography are assumed pathways traversed by these species to colonize the Italian peninsula. Referring to the Flora of Italy (Pignatti, 1982), the check-list of Conti et al. (2005), the med-checklist of Euro+Med (2006), have counted a total of 887 taxa. In according with author the most widespread contingents are the West-Mediterranean with 289 taxa, the West-European with 149, the Mediterranean-Atlantic with 116 and the South-West-Mediterranean with 103 taxa.
