Checklist of names in Mutillidae (Hymenoptera), with illustrations of selected species

A global synoptic list of the genera and species of the Mutillidae is provided. Three hundred and fourteen genus-group names and 6612 species-group nominal names are listed with respective synonymies. Known distribution areas of the valid species and subspecies are given in alphabetical order. The type species is reported for each genus and subgenus. The family is subdivided into 8 subfamilies: Myrmosinae, Pseudophotopsidinae, Ticoplinae, Rhopalomutillinae, Sphaeropthalminae, Dasylabrinae, Myrmillinae and Mutillinae. A list of 197 species (and subspecies) provisionally assigned to the Mutillidae (incertae sedis) but not to any modern genus is provided. For some species habitus and/or some characteristic photographs or drawings for the species or genus are provided. The current families of 25 species names originally placed in Mutilla but no longer in Mutillidae are also given.
